ELiCIT Lab receives a research grant from Illinois Space Grant Consortium (ISGC)

ELiCIT lab received a $45,000 research grant from the Illinois Space Grant Consortium (NASA sponsored) via a subaward to UIC from UIUC. The award is titled: GeoDataOnSphere: Collaborative Exploration of GeoData on Multi-touch Spherical Displays for Future Teachers. The main goal of this project is to investigate how to better design multi-touch spherical display interfaces for data visualization exploration in Earth Science classrooms. The project is led by PI Nikita Soni (Computer Science, UIC) and Co-PI Stefany Sit (Earth and Environmental Sciences, UIC). Our team will use the lessons learned from this research to design engaging collaborative learning software applications for Earth Science classrooms.

Award dates: April 10th, 2022 – April 9th, 2023

Nikita Soni is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Human-Centered Computing Program in the Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering at the University of Florida, advised by Dr. Lisa Anthony. Her research focuses on employing user-centered approaches to design natural user interactions for educational technologies for children and families in public spaces such as museums.
